3 Things Every Blog Post Must Go Through

Posted on 23. Oct, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging Elements

Think of a manufacturing process of a company like Toyota, as a fit example: every element and component of the cars come  through a rigorous process peppered with stringent quality checks in place. That’s why we say that everyone has a thing or two to learn from manufacturing processes. Although blog posts aren’t cars and we don’t have quality protocols like Six Sigma and TQM, great blog posts can still have a stringent quality check module. Here’s how you can do it for your own blog:

First check : Proof-read everything manually

This one was obvious, wasn’t it? Nothing can compare to the scrutiny and focus, attention to detail and the efficiency of the human brain — especially your brain. Soon after your post is done, make sure you read it thoroughly and read it more than once for better results. Check for syntax, grammar, spellings and other edits. The last thing you want is for your readers to point out mistakes for you. You could read The Economist: The Style Guide to help you with some fundamentals.

Second check: After The Deadline

Sometimes, you must let the computer do things it is really good at; do whatever the human brain doesn’t. I came across this handy wordpress plug-in called After The Deadline that helps you check your posts for grammatical errors and spellings. However, it also has a demonstration module so you can use it for purposes other writing posts for your wordpress blog ( like ebooks, articles, etc).

Third Check: Copyscape — You don’t want To Copy

Plagiarsm is considered to a sin equivalent to murder in real life. For a long time now, copyscape has been the service of choice to check for plagiarism. It is not just those who outsource their writing needs to writers all over the world who should be using copyscape; all writers and publishers should use this as one of the last checks and balances to get an article published — either for yourself or for others.
