3 Trashy Things I won’t Do As a Blogger

3 Trashy Things I won’t Do As a Blogger

Often, we compromise in our life. We do things just to make sure things are peaceful between us and those who mean so much to us. We do things or say something just to placate someone. Yes, most of us also find peace with this, avoid conflict and live happily. Someday, these things will get to you. They will gnaw away on your nerves and give you the gift of sleepless nights. It all comes down to what you stand for and how fiercely you follow your principles. As a blogger then, there are some things you ought to do and some things you ought not to. Just like the Knight of the Old Code in the movie Dragonheart, do you, as a blogger, have a code?

Here’s my Code (you are free to copy):

· I won’t suck up to your readers: Be polite to your readers, make them feel good. Praise them, eulogize them and pray for them. Help them succeed and inform them. Humor them or make them cry. However, don’t placate them. Don’t beg for their readership and don’t even bend over backwards for them. Actually, it is just not your readers; it’s everyone in your life. As a professional blogger, you hold your own stead. You are an authority on your subject/niche. You don’ t a sanction from the rest of us to allow you to blog.

· I won’t put money before service: Bloggers must blog about worthy stuff. They should provide “value” when they pen their thoughts. After you contribute something that valuable, money will automatically follow. As a blogger, don’t worry about monetizing your blog, earning money and making a business out of it until you can figure out how valuable you have become to your readership. Chasing money, after all, is living in a fool’s paradise.

· Not meeting, interacting and making friends or acquaintances with other bloggers: On the Internet, we have an eco-system of sorts and it is important that we spare ourselves time as bloggers to associate and network with that digital ecosystem – now also being termed as web 2.0. As a blogger, it is imperative that you go out of your way to interact, network and make friends with other bloggers and experts out there. You never know when a good word out can make your day, would you?
