5 Secrets of Successful Websites Bloggers Can Use
Posted on 17. Jun, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging
There are some websites that do well and some that don’t. Now, why some websites don’t do it well can be attributed to many things — starting with poor design, lack of good content, etc. However, there are some websites that shine through like light rays through a diamond. Consistent, high-quality content, pleasing and practical design, high usability factors all make this possible. Here are secrets that bloggers can use to improve their blogs:
1. Practicality and usability takes precedence over great looks: I am sure looked at or even used craigslist.org? What is the site really? A bunch of links thrown together in a highly organized manner. Looks? Crappy. Functionality, practicality and usability? Extremely high. Crappy looks never stopped sites like craigslist.org, usfreeads.com, etc to make their mark. So don’t focus too much on the blog design; instead focus on the ease, simplicity and usability of the blog — like navigation and the like.
2. Content is the very best: Each word doled out on websites like entrepreneur.com or inc.com or even webmd.com( health) is measured. The content is so good and authoritative that they are now the de facto destination for anything on the subject they are based on — business and health respectively in the case above.
3. They Capture their potential customers: Look at some of the most successful blogs or websites, you will notice that they would deploy tactics to capture as many leads as possible. They use a simple opt-in form on their website/blog or ask you to share your email address in exchange for a valuable report or software script? I was recently looking for a good magazine wordpress theme for myself and I came across Wpthemedesigner. Now, this website might not be in the leagues of the big blogs yet, but the strategy is unqiue — you will have to subscribe to the RSS feed of the blog to be able to download one of those free wordpress themes.
