5 Simple Steps To Make Your Blog Super Famous
Posted on 04. Mar, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging
Famous blogs just know how to beat the trumpet without being too pushy. These blogs attract an endless stream of readers. The more popular the blog gets; the more traffic it receives. It isn’t too hard to make your blog famous, I realized. After some careful study of some famous blogs like problogger, copyblogger and others, I found some simple ways to make your blog famous:
1. Stir Controversy: Juice, my friend, is the essence of all fruit; It is true for blogs as well. Blog content, for it is personable and opinionated, is a breeding ground for controversy. And guess what? Everyone loves drama. If you can find something to say that is bound irk someone; raise shackles of a group of people; have strong opinions on debatable topics or something to say that people might just love to argue about, you are on. I found some topics (not necessarily blog posts) like “ 10 reasons Why you should never touch an iphone” which irked quite a few iphone lovers and see how many pages the discussion ran into. You get the idea, don’t you?
2. Lists never run out of fashion: The title of this blog itself is a small list. So is the previous list-type post 5 ‘Nuts and Bolts’ Every Blog must have that was posted on Monday. Lists such as these are the net readers’ favorite. We never tire of clicking on these little, information-packed, engaging reads, do we? If you incorporate enough lists as posts or pages in your blog, it is right on the road to being famous.
3. Grab attention: I picked this from a post on copyblogger.com titled “10 surefire Headline Formulas That work“. Once you grab attention, the rest is relatively easier. Say something wild, something cocky. Have numbers in your titles and make them stronger. Use active voice. Use bold statements, even controversial ones. Use powerful words like FREE, Secret, etc. Ask questions in titles — this is an impulse generating tactic to keep the readers’ mind in a “Hey-give-me-the-answer-now” mode.
4. Offer value: Why do you go to Walmart? You get stuff for cheap there. Why Domino’s Pizza? They deliver within 30 mins or the Pizza is free. Why use Fedex? They deliver on time, no matter what. So why should anyone read your blog? Yes, it is now time to fill in the blank ______________________________________________. Value overrides a lot of things. When you provide value, you create a brand. As a blog owner, you will do well to create value for your readers. Each post should have something your readers can mull over; think deeply or take action.
5. Keep your blog interactive: One of the reasons why blogs are huge in number, surpassing the number of static sites is because blogs are interactive. They allow readers to engage in meaningful(even meaningless) conversations. All the jargon you hear about web 2.0 is just that. Allow your readers to critique you; love you; hate you (not recommended) and communicate with you. All blogging platforms (especially wordpress, and yes I am biased!) have ways to increase the interactivity of your blog. It’s easy and free to do so and that nullifies all your excuses. If you can still think of excuses, I bow down to your creativity and I would be glad to know what you have to say.
