Blog Set-up Blueprint 1: First Steps For Infant Blogs
Posted on 03. Jun, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging
I have been involved in plenty of projects lately and there seems to be tremendous amount of work involving wordpress. I realized then there is a possibility to develop a sure-shot, unfailing, traffic-pulling and incredibly solid base for your wordpress blog by just developing a set protocol — something like a blueprint to ensure that you never go wrong while setting up your blog. This post talks about the very first steps you need to take:
Hosting/domain nitty- gritty
Assuming you have a hosting account and again assuming you purchased your domain elsewhere (and not with the hosting provider), you must first do the following:
- Change the name servers : Let’s say you purchased your domains at godaddy.com. You can just log-in to your account, go the part that says “domain manager”; click on ” name servers” and change the name servers to those supplied by your web hosting provider( every web host has nameservers).
- Add a “Add-on Domain”: Go to your Cpanel ( the log-ins and other details would have been provided to you by your web host and find “add-on domains” on your Cpanel. Head over to that section and add the domain. You will just have to enter the name of the domain and click on ” add”.
- Install wordpress: After you do the above three steps, head over to “fantastico” and find wordpress on the run-down menu to the left. Click on wordpress and then install it. All you have to do is to follow the instructions. Don’t forget to email yourself the installation details( you will be given an option to do so).
Your wordpress blog should now be live. Minus the posts and the other Important stuff that needs to be done. We will discuss what needs to be done further in the next post.
