Blog Set-up Blueprint 3: Content and Link-Baiting
Posted on 08. Jun, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging
You have learned about installing your blog on your domain and you managed to set-up a theme for your new blog; it’s time to populate it with great, readable, engaging content. Now, it isn’t as easy as it sounds and there are forums that still shake with the reverberations as to what must your content be like; what would your strategy for generating content for your blog.
You are very well aware that original and well-written content will make your blog stand-out and be unique. Some people would go all out and suggest lazy, good-for-nothing ways of generating automated content. I’d say keep off it. I am all for automation, but I won’t back lazy ways of generating content by ripping off someone else’s hard work. It makes your blog just an “aggregator” which is useless for anyone looking for value.
No value; no money.
I highly recommend taking time and writing articles on your own; if you can afford it, have someone from elance.com or guru.com write for you. No excuses for this one. Go for easy ways like automation and you might just disappear from the blogosphere’s radar.
Have about 10-20, keyword rich articles written and schedule your posts at a pre-determined frequency. Mr.Fishkin’s article at Seomoz.org is an amazing read when it comes to authoring high quality content and you should make it a point to read it all.
Linking and Link-baiting
Controversy, strong-opinion and humor seem to work great to generate link-bait — which is a fancy way of saying that your blog is being increasingly linked to based on the quality of content being produced.
Controversy is usually easier to come through with a post than humor is, but I’d suggest you let your readers judge that.
Remember the great principle of give, give and give more. When you link to other bloggers generously, you will see that it all comes back to you often. Don’t expect it, just keep doing it.
It won’t happen in a day; but it is the only thing that would determine the worth of your blog, give it some Google’s love and make you stand-out in the unending sea of blogs.
