Blogging Tips: 4 Precious Lessons For Bloggers From Sports Teams

Posted on 17. Jul, 2009 by in Blogging

I attended a sporting tournament the other day and there were a couple of things I was intrigued about that I thought would be great leassons for those in business of blogging or even life for that matter. Sports, much like many other things in life is all about teamwork, spirit, collective expertise and much more. Do we have lessons for bloggers here? Let’s see:

1. Get more done: In soccer or cricket no one player is more than the whole team put together — of course we do have star players, but yet, the team comes first. When you form a team while working on your blogs, this team would tend to be more productive and manage to complete a lot more work than what could have been accomplished just by you alone. By letting others do what they are good at, you could just focus on things you are good at. This way, time is better spent and productivity is improved.

2. The spirit:
The spirit of the game is in the process of playing it; it’s in the  collective  cheering, the love of the game, the dressing room pep talk by the coach and the cheering off the crowds. All of this — the game itself — is the fun part which every player enjoys. You must understand that and  must enjoy the spirit of blogging and not treat it just as a means to something you want — fame, money, traffic, establishing credentials, etc. The fun lies in writing posts, forming a community of readers, interacting with them and spreading the good word.

3. Winning is everything: No team plays to lose; but no game has two winners. A blogger must  understand that if they are blogging, there must be a reason for that hard work, money and time spent. You should blog to win. You must be determined to achieve whatevver your intention was when you first started blogging. Giving up because your article marketing didn’t work or because you thought the niche had no potential is like walking out of a soccer game at half-time for no apparent reason.

4. It takes preparation, hardwork and commitment: If you look at professional  athletes, you would notice that they practice a lot and also before every game. Preparation is key to their success and the same applies to you as a blogger. You have to practice just as much, be extremely committed and needless to say, work very hard.

Bloggers are players and you must play to win.
