Fearless Blogging: Why You Should Be a Lion-Hearted Blogger
Posted on 25. Mar, 2009 by Ashwin in Blogging
I was just thinking about some of the blog posts I’ve read in the past and I reflected on the fact that most of the new bloggers (veteran bloggers too!) have a tendency to be timid, shy and reclusive. They do their best to stay below the radar and “spot-me-charlie” zone. This also reminds me of a inspiring read by Richard Bach called “Johnathan Livingston Seagull: A Story“ It inspired me to write this post on ‘ Fearless Blogging’ — an act of defiance and the mark of a rebel. If you want your blog to have any degree of success, being mediocre won’t help. Here’s what you got to do:
1. David is famous For Taking on Goliath(s):In an earlier post on my rebelpreneur blog called “Top 5 Tricks to Kick Competition Out“, one of the first things I had mentioned was to ‘Be Bold’ and I had a good reason to say that: Why be timid and talk like a little kid on the block? Why talk to placate others? In fact, readers love bold statements, controversies, and anything else that can cause an emotional upheaval. One of the best ways to get your blog ripping out of the kerbside and launch it onto the expressway is to do what David did with Goliath: go hit the biggest names in your niche and shred their opinions into a million pieces. Of course, you are smarter than just being verbose and letting it all out recklessly; it’s better if you used objective points to base your opposing point of view. Go ahead and pick up an intellectual brawl.
2. Meek Comments are for Monkeys: When you are out there commenting, socializing and posting, there is no place for any thing that sounds meek, vague and lacks passion. Your comments and posts must burn with energy. They must come off as intense, thoughtful and completely personal. Of course, you will inevitably raise hell and you will have people ripping your blog off the stands pretty soon. But that’s what you want, don’t you?
3. A lion has pride — Be Fearless & bold but still respectful and polite: You will raise hackles and incur people’s wrath, but that doesn’t mean that you go on an abusive virtual rampage; it’s only means that you will make strong opinions and put your point of view across confidently. When people comment back or post on your take on their writings, you will have to reply. It is best to remain firm and not budge from your original point of view. However, remain polite and be respectful of other people’s point of view. Don’t budge; but don’t bully either.
Go Fearless, Brave Blogger. The more they talk about your reckless pursuits, the more famous you will get.
