Kick Ass Ways To Spruce Your Blog Up
Posted on 22. Apr, 2009 by Ashwin in Blog promotion
Disclaimer: I include Blogging Elements when I state generalities and I don’t want you to bad-mouth me for being condescending (if you thought I was, that is).
Most blogs need to be shaken off their foundations right now; that includes our beloved Blogging Elements too. In a way, Mike and I are doing all we can to make it a better blog but we know there is so much to be done. I hate normalcy in any form, whatsoever.
Here are some of the things every blog should try to have such that it “stands out”. We did try a few of these and we are yet to try a few more. But I guess every blog can be spruced up by incorporating some kick-ass methods such as these:
Is your blog a head-turner?
It’s not just bikes, cars and women that should be looked at twice, be gawked at or be started at. Blogs will need it too. As Rodrigo Arellano, of an amazing, but yet to be launched motivational site called Humanhood, likes to put it ” The damned netizens have zero attention spans” and he is absolutely true. Some people would ask you to keep your blog simple and some insist on a professional, customized design (Blogging elements, by the way, settled for something in between). We would say, pick what you feel is right for you; but whatever you do, DON’T keep it normal — just like any other blog. If your design is good, simple, pleasing and still remarkably made of “head-turning” stuff. Your efforts will be rewarded — many times over.
Use your own Audio/Video
Text is abundant on the Internet and yet we have more of that coming in. It has been suggested before but we don’t have much of it being put on blogs, do we? Converting each of the blog posts into MP3 and putting up self-made videos with or without your face on it is an amazing idea. Mike and I are going to dive into with our feet tied together and put up some basic instructional videos on “Blogging For Beginners” and so on. You could use a simple video creating and editing tool called as CamStudio and not bother about buying any expensive software for creating videos.
If you would like to convert your blog posts. RSS feeds and what-have-you into audio files or podcasts, one great way to do that is to use Odiogo. It allows you to transform your blog into a multimedia rich blog and allows readers who hate reading to well, listen. Your posts will be converted into audio files that can be zipped and stored on your ipod, hardrive, mp3 players, wherever.
Write that Sensational, Mind-bending, gravity-defying, priceless but yet FREE reports
You will see this happening soon at Blogging Elements, but a great example of a sensational, incredible, mind-bending, awesome and really priceless reports given away for free. This achieves so much for the blogger/publisher:
- Intoduces you to your reader in the digital equivalent of a coffee date.
- Establishes you as an expert in the niche you operate in.
- Helps you build a community and automatically taking them up into your mailing list.
- Allows your readers to relate to you; trust you; like you and hence buy from you, if you intend to sell.
I found some amazing examples that I think everyone should try to emulate from.
- Humanhood.com, but I guess the site is yet to be launched. I implore you to sign-up for free nevertheless.
- Bestofmarlonsanders – A great example of how priceless your informational report can be, but it is still given out for free.
- Chris Guillebeau’s ” A Brief Guide to World Domination” — a unique take on how you could do so much for the world in your own way. He also makes for an inspirational read since he travels constantly and has an ambitious goal of covering all the countries in the world by 2013.

Very good points. Multimedia is a very good way to engage a target audience. I like to use podcasting, video, flash quizzes, polls, image and more to coney a message.
