Writing Your “About Me” Page

Writing Your “About Me” Page

Here are some ideas about how to write a great “about me” page for your website or blog:

  • The Image   It is best to place an image of yourself on the “about me” page; regardless of how physically attractive you view yourself!  This is almost essential if you want to connect with your readers and build a relationship.
  • About You   This is the point of the “about me” page– to talk about yourself!  People typically limit this section to talking about their expertise and education, but you should also discuss your skill sets, life experiences and perhaps most importantly, YOU!  Your resume (i.e. list of accomplishments) helps the reader gain trust that what they’re reading is accurate.  A candid portrayal of who you are when you’re away from your “skills” makes you human.  This goes back to the huge importance of building a relationship with your readers.
  • Helping Others    Another key to a good “about me” page is that you express how you can help the visitor/reader in a way that will help them remember you. Tell them what they will get from you or the blog.
  • Contact    Once you have made an impact on the visitor, chances are good that they will visit your website again. Because of this, you need to make it easy for people to contact you through your “about me” page.Contact ideas + E-mailTwitterSkypeGoogle Talk
  • Keeping it simple and to the point is a key part of having people remember and take in what they have read.  If you put too much into your life details they will most likely stop reading and might even leave your blog altogether.

Telling your whole story is OK when done in a “full story” option further down the page, allowing those who so desire to read on.  Just remember to keep the initial “about me” introduction simple.
